Ericsson.com – Traffic and Market Report – June 1st
- Ericsson performed in-depth data traffic measurements and found that the total number of global mobile subscriptions will reach around 9 billion in 2017 and 5 billion of this count will be for mobile broadband. In today’s competitive market, it is necessary for mobile network operators to ensure the best user experience and provide service differentiation.
Telecoms.com – A Problem Shared – July 9th
- The CTO of Orange Spain, Eduardo Duato, gave a keynote presentation at the LTE World Summit in Barcelona about mobile broadband revenues and why they are falling below the cost of network provisions. Author Mike Hibberd argues that LTE will only be a financial success if operators deepen their sharing to include key network elements like radio access network (RAN) and backhaul networks.
Light Reading – Is Telecom Growing at 10%? – July 9th
- According to Gartner, the global market for telecom equipment is predicted to increase by 10.8 percent, or $377 billion, by the end of 2012. Author Ray Le Maistre examines the current state of the telecom sector, hypothesizing additional growth of 8.3 percent to $408 billion by 2013. This industry growth heavily favors the wireless networks sector, which is already attracting heavy investments.
Lightwave Online – Insight Research: Spending on Carrier Ethernet services will hit $5B in 2012 – July 17th
- U.S. enterprises and consumers are expected to spend more than $47 billion on Ethernet services within the next five years. The main driver of this growth continues to be Ethernet’s ability to meet growing bandwidth demands at a lower cost and with greater flexibility than competing services.
Light Reading – Ethernet Executive Council 2Q12 Survey Report Available – July 19th
- The Ethernet Executive Council State-of-the-Industry 2Q 2012 report sheds light on the health of the retail, wholesale and mobile backhaul services markets and spotlights important service and technology trends affecting Ethernet. The report shows that the pricing environment for Ethernet and other wire line data services did not change significantly between October 2011 and April 2012. However, Council members have continued to experience more price pressure with Ethernet and wavelength services than with legacy metro TDM leased lines, which are gradually phasing out.
FierceTelecom – Ethernet, IP/MPLS Service Revenue to Surpass $81B by 2016 – July 24th
- In 2011, Ethernet and MPLS IP/VPN service revenue grew 13 percent to over $50 billion, a figure that will grow beyond $81 billion by 2016. A new Infonetics report indicates that service providers will continue to see global Ethernet and MPLS IP/VPN service revenue growth within the next four years.
